Is the leader of the Volunteers who staff the New Year's Eve celebration in
downtown Monterey. We like to call this person "the Admiral", as what they
do is so important to the successful production of the New Year's Eve
celebration. First Night Monterey is very lucky to have a solid base of
volunteers who return to the event each year-but they do need to be
contacted to get them to the orientation meeting and on the schedule.
Basic requirements:
Recruits and schedules all volunteers. Works in collaboration with other
steering committees to determine volunteer requirements, designates job
assignments and trains volunteers. During the month of December the
volunteer committee with the Executive Director hosts three volunteer
orientations at the Monterey Library on Pacific Street.
The volunteer committee asks for all of the staffing requirements for the
event and recruits volunteers for the various tasks. On the day of the
celebration the volunteer committee checks in the volunteers and makes sure
they know where they're suppose to be and what their tasks and duties.
Duties vary depending on your interests and abilities as well as the needs of the committee chair.
Typical opportunities include: clerical, word processing, data entry, telephone communications and party/event planners.
Under the direction of the Guest Services Coordinator, assist with deliveries and
set up of equipment including: tables, chairs, signs, etc. Must be
lift at least twenty pounds comfortably and safely.
Monitors all indoor/outdoor sites in a pre-assigned area that includes approximately 6-7 venues.
Assists and advises Site Managers as needed to improve crowd control, handle
urgent situations, etc. Handles and/or reports, via walkie-talkie and cell phone, any problems with security,
technical support, traffic control, trash, etc., to the Communications Center.
Under the direction of the Area Coordinator, assists with monitoring of the assigned area
that includes approximately 6-7 venues. Tasks typically include: crowd control, running errands,
assisting with venue management.
Supervises assigned venue operations, checks buttons, answers questions/gives directions
to get to other venues, crowd control, maintains clean venue, assists artists with keeping
on-time schedule and other venue needs to insure success of venue and artists. Regularly
reports to and requests assistance when necessary from the Area Coordinator. Assigns
duties to Site Assistants as needed.
Under the supervision of the Site Manager, assists guests with questions, etc., keeps area clean,
runs errands, assists with set up/tear down, as needed, checks buttons at indoor sites.
An energetic person who is willing to do whatever is needed, wherever he or she is needed!!
Under the supervision of the Hospitality Director, keeps the hospitality area stocked, clean and welcoming.
Under the supervision of the Kiosk Coordinator, manages a kiosk that distributes programs,
gives information, and sells merchandise and First Night Buttons. Knowledge of downtown
building and street locations is a must.
