The First Night Monterey Puppet Art Theater (FNMPAT) features artist and collaborator Kira Carrillo Corser, puppet sculptor Nina Parris, and actors from local schools including the award winning poet Kylie Batlin from PG High, with families from Greenfield and East Salinas. Greenfield Friday Night FNM art class painted the puppets and designed and painted the back drops.

Plastic Monster puppet

"Mami Wata Save The Sea" is fun, interactive puppet play adapted from a Ghanaian folklore. Mami Wata is the story of this high priestess of the sea. Mami is a protector of the ocean who becomes alarmed by some mysterious monster that is killing sea creatures. With life-size puppets, songs and African drums she brings attention to a current problem in the Pacific Ocean. This original play based on the was written by Kira Corser and collaborated with script advisors and Pacific Grove Students. The foam puppets were designed and created by Nina Parris and painted by Greenfield Art Class workshop students, who also designed and painted the back drops.

spirit and experience of First
Night "fragments that come together
to form a beautiful
whole, indicating a diversity of
experience or piecing together
the parts of a symbolic puzzle."

"Art reflecting and inspiring life in California's farming communities"
This show combines stories and statistics with art, to show the impact of art on men, women, and children (mostly in the Monterey county towns of Salinas, Greenfield and Gonzales). The "Mi Vida" project provides a beautiful and powerful example how art affects lives, gives expression to feelings and frustration, and inspires hope for future dreams of families in the Latino communities.
